What can a Caspian stallion bring to your next foal?
A Caspian stallion is an exciting choice for cross-breeding if you aim to breed a pony with extraordinary performance potential, an amazing natural jump and great temperament. It is the ideal choice if you need all this in a pony larger than a Caspian, or wish to breed a more comfortable, narrower child’s riding pony from a non-Caspian mare.
The Caspian stallion is extremely pre-potent and the cross-bred offspring usually inherit the Caspian agility, paces, temperament and appearance to an astounding extent.
Early experiments with cross-breeding in Britain, Europe, the USA, Australia and New Zealand have produced part-bred Caspians which have been highly successful in a wide variety of roles, from a comparatively tiny number of individuals.
Why use a Caspian stallion to breed high performance?
The Caspian Horse of Iran is thought to be the original Horse Type 4, ancestral to Arabians, and many of the hot-blooded breeds of horse we know today, yet it only emerged into the modern world in 1965. It was prized for its beauty, agility, courage, character and toughness, and you will find all of these in the modern Caspian Horse. Although now bred around the world, it is still considered rare.
Whatever you ask – the Caspian part-bred does it with flair…
Finding the right Caspian stallion and a suitable mare
The CHS will help you to find your stallion – we issue a list of licensed stallions and you can download it here or request it to be sent to you by the Registrar. We will advise whether your chosen mare is best suited for natural breeding or by Artificial Insemination (see Rules and Regulations on registering a foal conceived by AI). We can put you in touch with Caspian breeders who will provide their stud and livery fees and arrange a visit to view their stallion.
